VOICE JOURNEY GUIDES

STEPHANIE ROOKER

Stephanie Rooker, founder of Voice Journey Sound Center, is a vocalist, composer, voice teacher, therapeutic sound facilitator, and licensed mental health counselor. Her work combines practices of deep listening, somatic awareness, and mindfulness with healthy voice technique and the fundamental principles of sound healing to awaken the medicine of the voice for creative expression, personal growth, as well as holistic and societal healing.

After graduating from Oberlin College with a degree in Ethnomusicology, Stephanie distinguished herself as a force of soul on the NYC music scene, releasing two albums of original music – Tellin You Right Now (2008) and The Only Way Out is In (2010). Stephanie's most experimental project, Make the Way by Walking (Oct 2015), is a double-album of improvised music based on her Voice Journey® teachings, in collaboration with a host of master musicians and sound healers.

Stephanie was certified as an Integrative Sound & Music Practitioner by the NY Open Center's Sound & Music Institute in 2011, under the direction of Don Campbell; and served as assistant coordinator of that program for 4 years afterward, under the direction of Wendy Young. She completed a 200-hour certification in Yoga of the Voice, developed by Silvia Nakkach/Vox Mundi Project, in addition to Rhiannon's 9-month mastery-level vocal improvisation program, All the Way In. In January 2020, she received her masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College. Stephanie is currently residing in Phoenicia, NY with her dog, Phoenix; working at Maverick Psychotherapy Group in Kingston, NY; and deepening her studies through training in Somatic Experiencing®.

MARINA BANK

Marina's passion for voice started at a young age when she took part in the Children’s Musical Theater in Odessa, Ukraine. After a stop in Israel, she settled in NY and pursued an education in the healing field, becoming a Registered Nurse/Wellness Coach.

She discovered Voice Journey practice when she nervously walked into a vocal improvisation workshop with Stephanie Rooker back in 2014. The practice resonated as it was not a classical way of learning how to sing, but rather a form of self discovery and connection to the body and the voice as an instrument.

Marina’s personal experience with various indigenous healing practices lead Marina to further explore healing with sound and more importantly- voice as medicine. It is her strong belief that our voices hold unique potential for self expression and healing. With reverence for each person's unique process, Marina invites you to discover the Voice Journey practice so you too can re-member and unlock the medicine of your own voice.

Marina lives in Brooklyn NY and offers in person and online one on one as well as group Voice Journey sessions.
